In May 2026, the project ‘The consequences of flying’ can be seen simultaneously in New York and Amsterdam.
The main exhibition in New York is in The Artifact gallery from 6 to 24 May. The complete installation has been set up here: around 35 toy airplanes hang from the ceiling. Cards are attached to these on which visitors can fill in their thoughts about the relationship between air travel, CO2 emissions and climate change. Photos of airports hang on the wall. They include the number of flight movements per airport per year, the total CO2 emissions and the required number of trees that should be planted to compensate for those emissions.
The exhibition in Amsterdam can be seen in Podium Mozaïek from 27 April to 27 June. This exhibition: “Climate change in the Netherlands” is an overview exhibition with a lot of recent work. ‘The consequences of flying’ is presented in Amsterdam as part of the entire exhibition. Only a few airplanes can be seen here, plus some photos of airports. Visitors can also give their opinion on a card about air travel, CO2 emissions and climate change.
A book about the project will be published in 2026, entitled: ‘The consequences of flying’.
Part of the book is planting 1 tree, preferably in Amsterdam and New York.
